Top 5 Sporting Venues a Fan Should See

The Gamblin' Kid
Guest Commentary

Here are the lists for this week. Topic is top five sporting venues you should see before you die. When I say venues, I mean the actual building/field itself. Not a particular event. Rank all the lists from 1,2,3,4 with 1 being the best. Please take into consideration the weight in how we determined our lists. We ranked ours, so to us our #4 pick is more important than our 5, and so on. Come up with any way of judging or scoring the list but just make sure you have a 1,2,3,4 rank at the end. If you have any questions just let me know. If you need to wikipedia any of these or google them to see what they look like to find out more about them, go ahead. If you want to include your guesses on who did each list, go ahead. Please return by fridayish

List A.

1. Lambeau - 9: as far as NFL stadiums go it doesn't get any better than Lambeau. It has history, tradition, and a famous end zone celebration named after it. Cheese heads and Vince (good pick).

2. St. Andrews - 10: Unique bunkers and overall look, signature hole at 17th. Plays host to the Open Championship frequently. Being the oldest golf course in the world, Awesome pick! I like the fact that it's a public course too. Any venue where an outsider can have a chance to play definitely adds points in my books.

3. Estadio Azteca - 6: Large stadium which looks extremely nice, definitely the nicest stadium in North America.

4. Pipeline - 5: Pristine tropical look and certainly has the beauty to be considered a top sports venue. For my money I just can't (despite it's obvious appeal) award a surfing venue with the same amount of points as some of the other classic venues. I like the thinking, but just can't do it.

5. Camden - 6: Awesome look and everyone that I've talked to says it's a can't miss stadium. It has the signature look with the large building backdrop, though it is missing a few points for lack of historical significance.
Avg: 7.2. My guess is Todd

List B.

5. Wembley Stadium - 7:  Looks immaculate, missing a few points because it's not really a home stadium for any one team which I kind of feels adds some historical value given that the team is significant. Nonetheless a solid pick and a stadium definitely worth visiting.
4. Notre Dame Football Stadium  8 - Touch down Jesus and Hail Marys. A can't miss for NCAAF fans.
3. Fenway Park - 10: With the passing of the original Yankee Stadium, Fenway has emerged to the premier locale (it was close beforehand) for baseball fans to visit. Signature trait with the green monster, history. Nice selection.
2. Madison Square Garden - 8: MSG has to be the number 1 NBA venue.I awarded it points because it has hosted some of the greatest boxing events ever. I like the fact that it has and continues to play host to a multitude of collegiate games.
1. Soldier Field - 6: The renovation looks nice and I like that fact that is basically the home for USA soccer.
avg: 7.8         My guess is Tim.

List C.

#5 - Augusta National Golf Club - 9: I went back and forth between what was a nicer selection between Augusta and Saint Andrews, but ultimately landed to Saint Andrews. Though it does gain points for not having any women mucking up the course. History: check, pristine look: check, the fact that its featured every year in arguably the biggest major adds some value as well.
#4 - Churchill Downs - 9.5: Great pick, looks great, has some historical significance and every year I enjoy seeing all the people with mint juleps and women with the large hats.
#3 - Wembley Stadium - 7: for the aforementioned reasons.
#2 - The Major League Baseball Hall of Fame   6 - While it has the history, it's missing some points in my opinion as there are no real sporting events which take place.
#1 - Madison Square Garden - 8: While premier NBA arena and host to some of the greatest boxing matches ever, I just feel that its missing some cache (perhaps a better home franchise than the knicks or maybe a signature feature that's unique to only MSG.
My guess is that this is Teach's list. Avg: 7.9

List. D

5. Wimbledon- Centre Court  - 7.5. Certainly a worthwhile spot to visit for any tennis fan and even casual fans.
4.  Augusta National - 9. See above
3. Fenway Park - 10: For the reasons as stated above. Sox are going to be scary next year.
2. St. Andrews - 10: Classy pick.
1. Assembly Hall- Indiana Basketball Arena  - 2: I think I might be being a bit nice in granting two points (tis the season). I don't even think it is the only Assembly Hall in the Big 10, Illinois' arena is called it too right? While there is something history in Assembly Hall (most of it owing to Knight) I just can't give it too many points. Cameron Stadium, Rupp, or Pauley would have been far better picks in my opinion. Sure it's really nice in person though.

My guess is that it's Kevin's list. Avg: 7.7.            Had a really nice list in my opinion, but Assembly Hall kind of knocked you back.

Top 5 Mythical Creatures

Guest Commentary

First I want to thank you guys for the opportunity to judge your lists this week.  I want to give you a little insight as to why I judged these lists the way I did.  I understand that the #1 pick is the most important choice but I also think your other picks need to be solid.  If your #1 pick is great but I feel some of the other picks were questionable I had to take that in to account.  With that being said here are my choices.

P.S. I tend to be very opinionative so please do not take anything I say personally.  Just my own humble opinion.

1st place is list “B”

I think this is overall the best list with five great choices.  I personally have always been a big fan of dragons.  The mix of the evil creatures and good creatures on this list is great.  I thought the choice of genie as number 1 was a great choice.  Who would not love to have three wishes?  Here is a great genie joke for your enjoyment.

A husband takes his wife to play her first round of golf.

The wife promptly whacked her first shot right through the window of the biggest house adjacent to the course.

The husband cringed, "I warned you to be careful! Now we'll have to go up there, find the owner, apologize and see how much your lousy drive is going to cost us."

So the couple walked up to the house and knocked on the door.

A man's voice said, "Come on in."

When they opened the door they saw the damage that was done. Glass was all over the place, and a broken antique bottle was lying on its side near the broken window.

A man reclining on the couch asked, "Are you the people that broke the window?"

"Uh, yeah, sir.. We're sure sorry about that," the husband replied.

"Oh, no apology is necessary. Actually I want to thank you. You see, I'm a genie, and I've been trapped in that bottle for a thousand years. Now that you've released me, I'm allowed to grant three wishes.. I'll give you each one wish, but if you don't mind, I'll keep the last one for myself."

"Wow, that's great!" the husband said. He pondered a moment and blurted out, "I'd like a million dollars a year for the rest of my life."

"No problem," said the genie. "You've got it, it's the least I can do. And I'll guarantee you a long, healthy life!"

"And now you, young lady, what do you want?" the genie asked.

"I'd like to own a gorgeous home complete with servants in every country in the world," she said.

"Consider it done," the genie said. "And your homes will always be safe from fire, burglary and natural disasters!"

"Now," the couple asked in unison, "what's your wish, genie?"

"Well, since I've been trapped in that bottle and haven't been with a woman in more than a thousand years, my wish is to have sex with your wife."

The husband looked at his wife and said, "Gee, honey, you know we both now have a fortune, and all those houses. What do you think?"

She mulled it over for a few moments and said, "You know, you're right. Considering our good fortune, I guess I wouldn't mind, but what about you, honey?"

"You know I love you sweetheart," said the husband. "I'd do the same for you!"

So the genie and the woman went upstairs where they spent the rest of the afternoon enjoying each other in every way.. After about three hours of non-stop sex, the genie rolled over and looked directly into her eyes and asked, "How old are you and your husband?"

"Why, we're both 45," she responded breathlessly.

"NO SHIT." He said, "Forty-five years old and both of you still believe in genies?"

My second place list is list “D”

Overall I thought this list was right there neck and neck with the winner, but I had to take in account the #4.  I really struggled with this one because I thought that it was really funny but when I had to choose between list  B and D I felt that B had five good choices while list D and 4 good choices and 1 good joke.  The other 4 creatures on this list where outstanding choices.  Personally I feel Mermaid is the number 1 choice on all of these lists and if you would have put it number 1 on your list I might have put this list on top.  Any creature, mythological or not, that is female and does not wear a shirt is awesome!

Third place goes to list C

Again we have mermaids which are awesome.  Then we get to La Llorona which I had an issue with.  This person killed her children and supposedly roams the earth kidnapping children.  Booo!!!!   I personally do not like the choice of Sandman.  There are so many great choices for this list and I do not see how Sandman can be in the top 5.  I thought Chupacabra was a decent choice for the list but I do not think it should be #1.  How can Chupacabra be better than Mermaid?

Fourth place goes to list A

I had a hard time putting this list in last place because of Santa Claus, which could possibly be the greatest mythological creature of all time.  The problem I have with this list is The Sandman, for reasons listed above on list C, and the Tooth Fairy.  Tooth Fairy are you kidding me?  We are not five years old are we?  Did you see Dewayne Johnson as the Tooth Fairy?  I just can’t get the image out of my head!!!  Gross!!!!!  I also thought Leprechaun was a good pick but it wasn’t Santa Claus and Leprechaun together were not quite enough to sway me from three other choices that I did not care for.

Again, thanks for the opportunity to be a judge this week.  I will look forward to seeing the results
